A London skier got lost on a mountain in Italy and was rescued after he sent a text message to his mother, 900 miles away in Derbyshire.
Alexander Smith, from Kennington, was ski-ing off piste when he became separated from friends and fell from a ledge.
After failing to reach friends on his mobile, he sent an SMS to his mother Carole from 5,000 feet up the Ornella mountains at Arabba in the Dolomites, reports the London Evening Standard.
It said: "I'm in difficulty quick call police in Arabba."
After being lost for more than six hours, he was found by rescuers and given the all-clear.
His mother said: "You can imagine my horror when I got his SMS message. I didn't even know he had gone ski-ing. All I knew was that he was on holiday."
